Accounting and Company Administration: A Practical Checklist
Last reviewed: 8 October 2026
Keeping business records and filing tasks organised makes it easier to prepare reports and plan ahead. This checklist covers practical accounting and company administration matters for Singapore businesses.
Keep your records ready
Organise sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts, bank statements and payroll records. Confirm your financial year end and the reporting frequency you need. Agree the service scope and responsibilities with your accounting team.
Check GST registration
Singapore’s standard GST rate is 9%. Compulsory registration may apply when taxable turnover exceeds S$1 million for the calendar year, or is reasonably expected to exceed S$1 million in the next 12 months. Voluntary registration has separate conditions.
Check IRAS’s registration guidance for the basis, application deadline and effective date that apply to your business.
Track your filing dates
GST returns are generally due one month after the accounting period ends. A nil return is required when there is no business activity. Confirm filing and payment dates against IRAS’s current schedule.
Maintain a separate calendar for your company’s annual return and tax filings. The relevant dates depend on your company and filing obligations; contact our team to discuss the work required.
Organise company administration
A Singapore company must appoint a company secretary within six months of incorporation. The sole director cannot also be its secretary. Review ACRA’s appointment requirements and keep your statutory records and company details up to date.
